New Luxury Eyewear

Although the term heirloom is thrown about with some frequency within the world of luxury watches and jewelry (more often than not in an attempt to justify astronomical prices), it is not often associated with the increasingly disposable arena of eyewear. Desirable as designer sunglasses may be, few brands employ the precious materials.

The collections from Prada, Miu Miu, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Paul Smith, Versace, and Ray-Ban were particular favorites, featuring stand-out styles as seen the catwalk and their new more wearable adaptations.

The most exciting and innovative styles included new materials, finished, embellishment details and definite, striking silhouettes. We loved the new Versace logo lenses, an eyewear design detail we have been tracking for some time. Matte finish frames at Prada, Miu Miu and Stella feel new for the season, and have an understated luxury appeal whether in rich tortoiseshell or brushed metal.
Warm honey and neutral cosmetic colored eyewear are also a new addition to collections from Burberry, Prada, Stella McCartney and Paul Smith, signaling a transition to more tonal rather than color pop looks for next Summer.

Vintage research underscores many of the new shape directions for both Women and Men, with a number of specific eras inspiring designers, the circular specs of the 30s, the 50s cat-eyes, and 60s masculine sporty styles. The Ray-Ban folded wayfarers are a unique, retro 70s line that is sure to appeal to the Juniors and Young Men’s markets.
